University of Rochester Accounting Asst III in Rochester, New York

GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Accounting Assistant III works for two departments: Biomedical Genetics and Biochemistry and Biophysics. The Accounting Assistant III performs professional accounting and bookkeeping activities at a level requiring knowledge and application of general accounting theory, techniques and practices knowledge of the University general accounting systems. This position requires the ability to communicate on a professional level with faculty, staff, students, and other departmental personnel from diverse backgrounds, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of an experienced, and highly effective administrative team.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Scans expenditures’ supporting documentation and renames it according to document naming convention used by the Department of Biomedical Genetics. Files the documents on a departmental shared drive.

  • Downloads expenditures’ supporting documentation from Workday and renames it according to document naming convention.. Files the documents on a departmental shared drive. Runs Workday reports weekly for additional purchase order information for non-salary data entry.

  • Performs data entry of non-salary encumbrances into shadow system such as URGEMS system or Excel.

  • Examines accounting documents to ascertain that transactions are properly supported in accordance with University policy and procedures, obtains and verifies missing back up documentation for all expenses.

  • Performs non-salary account reconciliation in shadow system such as URGEMS system or Excel against monthly transaction detail reports from Workday after final monthly close of accounts.

  • Analyzes non-salary ledger accounts to determine accuracy of expense entries, investigates timing differences or errors; initiates corrective action or recommends solutions as appropriate including but not limited to requesting transaction backup and performing journal transfers

  • Performs other related work as required to support the administrative office of Department of Biomedical Genetics and Biochemistry and Biophysics

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School diploma required.

  • Associate's degree preferred.

  • 2 years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills and attention to detail required.

  • Strong ability to quickly learn new systems, processes and workflows required.

  • Must be able to work both independently with self-direction and with a team required.

  • Excellent communication and customer service skill required.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word required.

  • Must be CLASP certified at the time of hire or as soon as possible after hire date.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $19.37 - $27.12 Hourly

The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job’s compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations.
