The Roofing Mechanic works within a field crew in the application of several different roofing systems. Job duties include physical removal of existing roof systems with hand or power tools. Application of roofing materials requires physically staging materials, measuring and laying out materials, application of cold and hot adhesives during the application of materials and miscellaneous detail and waterproofing techniques. Roofing work requires physical strength and effort, including occasionally lifting materials up to 50 lbs. Infrequently, with the assistance of fellow workers, materials up to 80 lbs must be lifted and carried. The workplace is outdoors and the Roofer must be able to tolerate both hot, humid summer weather as well as cold winter weather. Physical agility is a necessity for safe work performance, as a Roofer will be exposed to both flat and steep roofs. Roofs are often at great heights; the Roofer must have the ability to climb ladders and work off scaffolding. Safety is the top company operating concern. The Roofer will follow safety guidelines and be alert in carrying out job duties.
