The Eagleton Institute of Politics is seeking 5 instructors for the 3-credit asynchronous course associated with President Holloway's Rutgers Summer Service Initiative. Successful applicants will serve as an instructor for one of five sections of the RSSI cohort of approximately 100 students (3 sections from the New Brunswick campus, 1 from Newark, and 1 from Camden). Successful applicants will implement the course curriculum/syllabus newly designed by Rutgers faculty and will play an important role in grounding students' experience in their public service internships and providing them with the theoretical foundation and professional and civic skillset to thrive in their internship site, career and their communities.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Applicants must have a Bachelor's Degree, Master's Degree Preferred. Applicants must have experience working with undergraduate students in either an academic or experiential capacity (or both) as well as relevant experience with civic engagement/public service, and basic career preparation knowledge. Applicants must be a current Rutgers employee or student
Certifications/Licenses
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, work well with a team, have experience utilizing Canvas (the Learning Management System for the course) and Zoom. Experience using Folio/Portfolium and teaching in a classroom setting is preferred.
Equipment Utilized
Instructors must have a fully functional laptop or computer and reliable access to an internet connection given the asynchronous nature of the course

Overview
Rutgers Summer Service Internship (RSSI) Initiative (a partnership of the Eagleton Institute of Politics and Rutgers Career Service offices) provides selected Rutgers students from Camden, Newark, and New Brunswick with an opportunity to earn $5,000 while interning at a public service non-profit organization or direct-service government office. Internships consists of a minimum of 200-hours over 10 weeks during the summer. Students also participate in a concurrent virtual, asynchronous course designed to explore and engage with the topic of public service while building their career readiness and professionalism skills.
The RSSI course is meant to ground students' experience in their public service internships, providing them with the theoretical foundation and professional and civic skillset and enhance career readiness to thrive in their internship site and their communities. Through readings, reflections, and virtual discussions, students will explore and engage with the topic of public service while building their career readiness and professionalism. Specifically, students will consider the connection between public service and democratic citizenship, learn from difference, and bring these lessons into their career journey.
Instructors will work together and under the direction of the RSSI Rutgers faculty who designed the curriculum to implement the course and evaluate students' experience. Instructors serve as students' primary point of contact. Responsibilities will entail grading weekly reflection assignments, answering questions on the materials, tracking completion of course requirements, collecting and grading weekly assignments, engaging in online discussions when needed, supporting students with their cumulative course project, and engaging in other methods of evaluation. Instructors may meet one-one-one with students mid-semester, participate in 2 synchronous sessions with the entire RSSI cohort, and assist with preparation for the fall RSSI symposium event (mid-September) as needed.
