The Job

CNN maintains platforms that power the data for our leading business markets pages & world-class election coverage. These platforms are highly available redundant architectures that are in need of constant augmentation in order to keep up with demand and competition. This sometimes includes major refactors and or architectural over-hauls that keep us in-line with business requirements. We are looking for engineers who are comfortable across the stack and interested in solving unique and challenging problems.

The Daily

• Contribute to the architecture and implementation of CNN Digital’s cloud infrastructure using Cloudformation and Terraform.

• Develop and enhance our existing Bash scripts used for deployments and local development

• Maintain Production and Lower environment infrastructure such as applying security patches and upgrading services.

• Maintain and develop our CI/CD infrastructure in AWS codebuild & codepipeline.

• Work primarily in AWS services such as AWS Managed Service Apache Flink, RDS Aurora Postgres, Opensearch, ECS, SQS and ElasticCache Redis

• Contribute to the code & architecture reviews and champion best practices for the organization by defining and evolving engineering standards.

• Stay abreast with industry trends and announcements. Understand how changes can impact our business and raise concerns and/or propose solutions to mitigate.

• Code! Be passionate about software engineering with a strong sense of ownership for the code that you and your team write.

• Follow a progressive development methodology, moving from proofs of concept to prototypes to production releases.

The Essentials

• BS degree in Computer Science or relevant work experience with 8+ years of relevant experience

• Proven record of driving initiatives which involve changes in the engineering culture through evangelism and structured processes

• Ability to review company goals and lead towards success, through discussion with engineering peers, proposals, and ultimately breaking down the solution into meaningful tasks to execute or delegate to the team

• Deep industry experience with modern development technologies, and hands-on familiarity with both client and server technology. Have a solid understanding of common software data structures and algorithms

• A passion to grow professionally and continue developing along an individual contributor path

The Nice to Haves

• Java, TypeScript, & Python scripting experience

• Active in open source community

• Experience with interviewing and talent acquisition
