Glens Falls Hospital Infection Prevention Practitioner - Quality Management in Glens Falls, New York

The Impact You Can Make The Infection Prevention Department is responsible for epidemiological principles & investigations, surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), education of employees about infection prevention, development of Performance Improvement (PI) and Infection Prevention plans and programs, and ensuring rigorous infection prevention standards that meet NYSDOH, DNV-GL, OSHA, Centers for Medicaid/Medicare Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other state and national recommendations and requirements. * *The Glens Falls Hospital Impact Mission Our Mission is to improve the health of people in our region by providing access to exceptional, affordable, and patient-centered care every day and in every setting. How You Will Fulfill Your Potential * *Responsibilities 1. Program Support: o Surveillance; enter data into the medical record to track patients with multi-drug resistant organisms; perform hand hygiene and PPE compliance observations, etc. o Assist in the evaluation and implementation of the annual surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and analysis of surveillance data. o Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations. o Communicate infection prevention and control information and data to various committees and healthcare workers across the organization as assigned. o Initiate and coordinate investigations of unusual hospital infection outbreaks utilizing the microbiology laboratory, consultation with Infectious Disease Physician(s), county/state public health departments, and when necessary, in consultation with the Center for Disease Control. Report epidemiologically significant findings to appropriate stakeholders. 2. Regulatory Requirements o Comply with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state and federal levels. o Direct facility compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. o Stay current on infection prevention and control regulatory and accreditation standards. 3. Performance Improvement (PI) o Participate in performance improvement activities by assessing, monitoring, and measuring healthcare associated infections and evaluating outcomes on a continuous basis o Ensure that customer needs and expectations are considered in the development of and continuous improvement of processes, products, and services. o Monitor and analyze process and outcome measures to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability. o Participate in PI committees, teams and initiatives as indicated. 4. Advocate for patient safety, health worker safety, and organizational safety. 5. Participate in an infection prevention and control professional organization/association (i.e.: APIC/SHEA/IDSA). 6. Collaboration o Consult and collaborate, as needed, with local, state, and federal public health officials, and community health organizations. o Involve multidisciplinary teams to ensure changes are vetted by all stakeholder groups. 7. Leadership o Utilize principles of influence, leadership and change management. o Bring enthusiasm, creativity and innovation to practice. o Work collaboratively with others, providing direction when necessary. o Readily share knowledge and expertise. o Contribute to the development of less-experienced healthcare providers through education and mentorship. o Prepare and deliver infection prevention presentations to external groups. 8. Research and Implementation Science o Critically evaluate research and evidence-based practices and incorporate appropriate findings into routine practice. o Integrate evidence-based practices into policies, guidelines, protocols and educational strategies. o Identify barriers for implementation and develop strategies to minimize or remove barriers. o Implement strategies to sustain efforts such as audit tools and meaningful feedback. 9. IPC Informatics o Be familiar with infection prevention software and other technology. o Collaborate with IT to create meaningful electronic reports to enhance infection prevention initiatives. 10. Fiscal Responsibility o Consider the financial/safety implications and clinical outcomes when making recommendations, evaluating technology and products, and developing policies and procedures. o Use a systematic approach to evaluate costs, benefits, and efficacy. o Incorporate fiscal assessments into program evaluations and/or reports. o Develop and maintain departmental budgets. o Drive infection prevention-related initiatives within the value-based evaluation process of new products 11. All other duties as assigned. Education/Accredited Programs * Baccalaureate required. Public health, epidemiology, or clinical lab science preferred, considerations will be given to medical technology, health-related field, or mathematical computation/statistics. * At least two years’ experience in a healthcare-related field Licenses/Certifications/Registrations * Certified in Infection Control & Epidemiology (CIC) * *Skills/Abilities * Familiarity with medical terminology * Ability to communicate effectively, both in written and oral form * Statistical and data entry analysis skills * Computer literacy * Ability to work collaboratively with individuals of all levels of skill and education * Ability to navigate Electronic Medical Records (EMR) * Critical thinking skills * Problem-solving * Conflict resolution * Ability to educate on infection prevention methodology and efforts Communities We Serve Located in the foothills of the beautiful Adirondack mountains, Glens Falls is conveniently located a short drive away from the capital region and Lake George. Salary Range The expected base rate for this Glens Falls, New York, United States-based position is $79,476.80 - $116,708.80 per year.Exact rate is determined on a case-by-case basis commensurate with experience level, as well as education and certifications pertaining to each position which may be above the listed job requirements.
