Farmingdale State College Lead Supervising Counselor in Farmingdale, New York

The Lead Supervising Counselor position requires an engaging, outgoing self-starter who will utilize their knowledge of best practices with students with disabilities to create a supportive and inclusive environment at Farmingdale State College.

This position will entail supervising current Disability Services Center (DSC) counselors. Conducting joint sessions with counselors for high priority cases. Conducting documentation/session note checks on the DSC's documentation portal, Accommodate. This staff member will need to facilitate student intake interviews, assess disability documentation, participate in the interactive process with students regarding academic supports and accommodations and compose student case notes.

This position will be responsible for meeting with faculty regarding specific questions or concerns about accommodations. In addition to creating, developing, implementing, and running campus programming and workshops related to disability and academic success for students and staff. These programs should have an emphasis on amplifying the voices of students and individuals with disabilities, and highlights disability as a critical part of diversity.

    Job Requirements:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of a Master's degree in Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, Counseling, Social work or a related field.

  • At least three years' experience working with or counseling students with disabilities at the high school or college level.

  • At least three years' experience supervising staff, running supervision and reviewing session notes.

  • Proficient understanding of psycho-educational diagnostic evaluations.

  • Knowledge of the Americans with Disability Act and Section 504.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with program development and engagement for students with disabilities.

  • Knowledge of Assistive technology tools to support learning in College.

  • Experience working with readers aid and access VR.

    Additional Information:

This is a full-time UUP position.

  • For the first 10 working days, beginning Tuesday, April 30, 2024, and ending Monday, May 13, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale.

  • CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Wednesday, May 29, 2024

  • SALARY: $65,000 + $3,087 in downstate location pay = $68,087 Total Compensation. Salary may increase commensurate with experience.
