Eaton Corporation Senior Mechanical Engineer in Davenport, Iowa

Eaton’s AER MSD Mission Systems Division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer. This position will be located at our Davenport, IA facility. Relocation benefits will be provided within the United States only.

The Davenport facility has approximately 900 employees and is a leader in the design, development, manufacture and delivery of Aerospace life support and safety systems components and services to the global aftermarket and OEM markets.

This position will work with the Integrated Product Team (IPT) on a range of development activities for the systems, components, and equipment as part of the Oxygen products team. The engineer performs project engineering work from design to implementation; communicates expectations, plans, and requirements and also coordinates all work within the scope of assigned projects. The individual serves as a consultant across the division, providing technical information and engineering recommendations that assist various projects and processes. The engineer contributes effectively towards team goals and influences the work group and works beyond routine nature of tasks utilizing specialized knowledge to support internal and external customers. They are often the Technical Leader for large projects or multiple small projects. The engineer works with limited supervision, has strong technical skills, proactively seeks support from Chief Engineers or Subject Matter Experts, and can adapt and react quickly to internal and external customer demands.

The expected annual salary range for this role is $77249.97 - $117700.04 a year. Please note the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon candidate skills, experience, and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

What you’ll do:

• Design and develop moderately complex projects for new oxygen system products, processes, and technologies, as well as redesigns existing products on time, within budget, and with required quality.

• Participate in integrated product development teams; prepare design specifications, analysis and recommendations for presentation and approval.

• Develop project plans for development activities including designing tasks, resource requirements, design reviews, and qualification and verification plans.

• Generate and/or review project-related documentation and analysis results to ensure their completeness and quality.

• Evaluate suitability of current products for new applications; work with team to develop bids and proposals for new, modified, or upgraded projects. Awareness of external trends relevant to projects.

• Work within team to develop predictive component and product performance models; develop plans to verify models for component and product characteristics. Able to perform analysis within their technical domain and can lead analysis-led design changes (performance, stress, thermal, fluid flow) using the analysis results.

• Interface with customers as part of development programs; work closely with suppliers on component and product development.

• Participate in ideation for new products and technologies; provide innovative ideas for improvements to existing products. Generate IP and Publications in support of business needs.

• Apply advanced tools in problem solving and project management to solve technical issues.

• Understand risks, design trade-off, tolerancing, and component interactions and incorporates design for manufacturing and cost. Incorporate machining/manufacturing capabilities into statistical design of mechanical systems to meet performance and cost. Can interpret product requirements and specify appropriate enhancements to the design as per DFA & DFM fundamentals.

• Develop system level and sub-system/component level requirements flow down.

• Provide technical expertise to support manufacturing, field service engineers, and customers.

• Coach and mentor junior engineers on oxygen product development technology.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required (Basic) Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Systems or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Minimum of three (3) years engineering experience.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship, now or in the future.

• This position requires use of information or access to hardware which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). All applicants must be U.S. persons within the meaning of ITAR. ITAR defines a U.S. person as a U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident (i.e. 'Green Card Holder'), Political Asylee, or Refugee.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited institution.

• Minimum of five (5) years engineering design and project experience.

• Experience with Pro/Engineer (CREO).

• Experience with Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).

• Design for Six Sigma (DFSS), Design for Manufacturability (DFM), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), and Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA) principles.

Skills:

• Experience as an engineer supporting the aerospace industry.

• Experience with manufacturing processes and material selection for engineering design and ability to design for product manufacturability.

• Ability to perform basic structural and/or performance analysis.
