Amentum Information Technology Subject Matter Expert in Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii

Amentum is seeking a dynamic Senior Network Engineer to provide research, research, design, test, and evaluation support to the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (USINDOPACOM) Joint Innovation and Experimentation Directorate (J81) at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

USINDOPACOM maintains a Theater Campaign Plan (TCP) to shape the environment in the USINDOPACOM Area of Operations; Concept Plans (CONPLANs); and Operational Plans (OPLANS) to ensure the Combatant Commander is postured to rapidly respond to these types of contingencies.

Specific Duties Include:

  • Conceptualize operational needs and solutions at a high level and then develop technical requirements and recommend solutions to drive improvement to existing design and solutions.

  • Oversee the strategic interface for network system configuration, strategically plan new configurations for network operations using knowledge of the characteristics of the systems being added to the network, and the specifications for network interfaces to ensure effective integration and optimal network performance.

  • Research, design, test, and evaluate new technologies and solutions. Maintain an organization-wide view of current and future operations and architecture to recommend solutions that integrate into the overall architectural vision and strategy.

  • Design and implement computer and information networks, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), intranets, extranets, and other data communications networks including Software Defined Networks (SDN), Application Analysis, and Quality of Service.

  • Participate in and/or lead design and engineering projects for the customer’s experimental network involving the extension and application of advanced engineering and networking principles and concepts.

  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning.

  • Design network and computer security measures, and research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software.

  • Provide assessments regarding the technical characteristics of the proposals and alternatives considered to optimize network performance and data throughput in support of operational users.

  • Conduct advanced and state-of-the-art assignments such as network design optimization, technical experiments, specification of equipment configurations, technology assessment, technology insertion planning, capacity planning, and configuration management.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work/military experience.

  • 5-7 years of experience designing network infrastructure for a large/complex network.

  • Experience in the following areas:

  • Designing and implementing MPLS/VPN networks

  • Designing and implementing SDN

  • Designing and implementing Data Centers utilizing Virtual Switching Systems (VSS) and Virtual Private Cloud (VPC)

  • Understanding of network technologies. (ACI, SDN, SDWAN, routing, switching, firewalls, wireless, application load balancing, network visibility.)

  • Understanding of network practices, and protocols. (MPLS/SR, optical networking, LISP, VXLAN, IPv4, IPv6, 802.1X, segmentation, QoS, IPAM.)

  • Experience with multi-vendor Firewalls, multi-vendor switches and routers.

  • Understanding and experience in cloud networking design for both hybrid and cloud native deployments.

  • Knowledge of the TCP IP protocol suite, IP subnets, masking, and routing protocols.

  • Knowledge of network bandwidth, requirements, routing through network devices or public network extensions.

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or equivalent certification.

  • Must have an active Top-Secret security clearance, with SCI eligibility later during employment. Note: US Citizenship is required to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.

  • At least 5 years of experience supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), including at least 3 years of experience in military operations

  • Knowledge of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical discipline.

  • 7-10 years of experience designing network infrastructure for a large/complex network, particularly in a DoD environment.

  • Experience with technologies and platforms that make up DoD information systems, including virtualization servers, such as VMware vSphere or vCenter 7+, host operating systems, including Microsoft Windows Server 2016+ or Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7+, host applications, including Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange Server, or Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager, Storage Area Networks (SANs), transport networks and core or edge network infrastructure, including Cisco or Juniper routers, switches, firewalls, or Security Information Event Management (SIEM) and management tools that facilitate the troubleshooting of problem behaviors or promote the orchestration and automation of new deployments and recurring administrative tasks.

  • Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification.

  • DoD Approved 8570 Baseline Certification at IAT Level II.

  • At least 10 years of experience supporting the Department of Defense (DoD), including at least 5 years of experience in military operations

  • 5 years' experience working in the USINDOPACOM AOR

The salary range for this position is $140K to $160K (salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant internal equity, and alignment with market data.)
